👾 2024 IFComp Winners

As a long-time interactive fiction fan, I've entertained ideas of participating in the IFComp since its inception back in 1995, but I've never actually followed through. I haven't been one to consistently play and judge the entries during the six-week judging period either. But as a fan of fun and interesting IF games, I'm always curious about the final results and what new and old platforms were used in their construction. I just saw today that the 2024 IFComp Winners have been announced. There were 67 total entrants this year so hats off to everyone that played and voted on them.

I did a quick survey of the top 10 games to see what platforms they were built in:

  1. The Bat : Inform 7
  2. The Den : Twine
  3. Forsaken Denizen: Dialog
  4. Under the Cognomen of Edgar Allan Poe : TADS 3
  5. Eikas : Twine
  6. Miss Gosling's Last Case: Dialog
  7. Hildy : Inform 7
  8. An Account of Your Visit to the Enchanted House & What You Found There : Twine
  9. A Dream of Silence: Act 3 : Twine
  10. Winter-Over : Twine

Seeing a couple games written in Dialog was a cool surprise. I've known about the system for a while, but wasn't familiar with how many games have been written in it and if it's gaining in popularity. Two entries in the top 10 is pretty respectable. At any rate, looking forward to exploring some of this year's entries in the near future.
