🏃 2024 Running

I started running with my three younger daughters back in March after a couple years off. Since I was pretty out of shape by my standards and they had no running experience I decided to ease us into it with a basic Couch to 5K plan where we ran three times a week. That ended up working out really well and all three of them took to it right away. After years of solo running where I was usually pushing myself while training for races, it was quite fun to have a group to do relaxed and easy runs with.

MON KM TIME /KM
MAR 5.81 0:53:48 9:16
APR 45.11 5:17:05 7:02
MAY 56.49 5:48:43 6:10
JUN 78.84 8:02:18 6:07
JUL 60.03 6:18:01 6:18
AUG 59.24 6:00:41 6:05
SEP 57.87 5:42:15 5:55
OCT 57.40 5:41:31 5:57

Of course given that all three play soccer and are pretty natural runners it's gotten a little more competitive over time. Even if we start easy they're all starting to push the pace by the time we're 1K away from home. I have to push myself fairly hard to come in first now, but I'm totally fine with ending in the middle of the pack or even last if all three are feeling good on a given day.

I crunched the numbers on our run totals and our average pace has been showing solid gradual improvement. June was an outlier because I got in a few extra runs on my own when the girls were sick and I pushed the pace a lot harder than I can when running with them. I suspect we were slower in July because of the heat and getting acclimated to running in that, but the three months after that were quite solid.

I'm hopeful that we can keep running through December, but it will depend on how much snow we get this year. The routes we run from home require cutting off-road at the start and that will be impossible in snow that's deeper than a couple inches. It's also possible that we could occasionally drive somewhere to run from, so we'll see what happens.
