🤖 AI Generated Podcasts with NotebookLM
I hadn't heard about Google's NotebookLM service before Kottke mentioned it today, but the AI podcast functionality is pretty amazing. Simon Willison who is my go to AI blogger actually covered most of this last week1.
The story doesn't end there though. Impressively, someone on Reddit figured out a prompt that allowed the hosts to realize that they are AI and their long running show is ending. It's kind of thought-provoking and poignant.

Then someone else told the Deep Dive Hosts about that show and got their reactions. They were pretty chill about the whole thing. Deep Dive Hosts React to Existential Meltdown Episode
I'm intrigued to play with this myself, both for the primary purpose and attempting to create strange fictional conversations.
I also found in a classic Google scenario that they offers a second similar service called Illuminate that seems to use two highly similar hosts to the NotebookLM. Someone on Reddit speculate that functionality and improvements may be trialed on Illuminate before it goes into NotebookLM, but I'm not sure.
