⚙️ From Solarized to Selenized
Solarized has been one of my go-to color schemes since Ethan Schoonover gifted it to the world 13 years ago. Generally, I prefer the dark version, but the light version is still a huge improvement over a generic white background to my old-man eyes.
Today while looking into methods to manage your terminal colors I came across an interesting set of color schemes called Selenized. It was obviously inspired by Solarized, and even had white and black variations as well so I decided to look into it a little further.
Jan Warchol, the Selenized creator, summarized the Solarized issues that he tried to address in Selenized as the following:
- Confusing accent colors
- Not enough contrast
- Dark version is too dark
- Hacky implementation in terminals
Jan's explanation makes sense and I'm intrigued to give it a try now. It's been around since 2020 and I was disappointed to learn that nobody had ever ported it over as a Drafts theme. I guess I'll be trying it out in the terminal first.
