🎙 Here Be Monsters
One of my favorite podcasts has been on hiatus for almost two years after its host, Jeff Emptman, moved from Seattle to Berlin. But today I discovered a new Hear Be Monsters episode and I was excited to listen to it and then catch up on what he's been up to via blog posts on his Patreon that I didn't know about1.
HBM is a truly unique podcast that describes itself as "an independent podcast about fear, beauty and the unknown." Jeff does lots of interesting stuff with ambient audio, music, and field recordings, but it's always in service of the story he's telling. It sounds like he's finally in a place where he can start releasing podcasts a little more frequently again and I'm looking forward to the new episodes dropping. On top of that, I realized that I never fully worked through the HBM back catalog and because of its storytelling nature, it's very much an evergreen podcast worth listening to from the beginning. So I've got some more quality audio for my podcast listening queue again.
My favorite line in the post was about his personal experiences in Germany was the one about the abundance of good cheap German beer and the lack of variety when "you want to drink pine needles" like any IPA-loving Pacific Northwesterner like Jeff or myself are wont to do.↩
