🗓 How I Microblog
I've been microblogging multiple times a day at axodys.octobloc.xyz for the last year or so. The microblog is powered by a fairly basic php app that I found on Github and hacked on a little bit myself (and even had a couple of pull requests accepted). The original author tinkers with it sporadically, but I wouldn't describe it as under active development (the last release was over a year ago). There are a few small changes that I've intended to make including adding markdown support, but I haven't gotten around to it. It's served my purposes well enough for jotting down regular thoughts as is.
The single best part about my microblog to me is that there is no interaction. I'm putting it out there in the world, it may or may not be useful or interesting to anyone else, but it's there and you can subscribe to the feed if you want. Additionally, every 7 or 8 days I will collate most of my recent microblog posts into a weekly microcosm post here on my primary blog. This is also a key aspect of my micro-blogging approach going forward. I intend to do a full microblog reset every year. The blog is my place of record, the microblog is ephemeral.
So what about other social platforms like Mastodon and Bluesky? I've been using Bluesky as a drop-in Twitter replacement and my main mode is to like and respond to others rather than to post things seeking engagement. I can see doing that for specific blog posts in the future, and I like what I've seen from various Bear bloggers in this regard, but I don't plan to put much creative energy into the platform. Like-wise for Mastodon.
