So... Axodys?

🏀 Liberty (and Sloot) are WNBA Champions

Liberty title, epic WNBA Finals fitting end to transcendent season

I caught the end of game 5 after realizing it was still on with about 5 minutes to go. It was a good one, but a real ugly grinder that was knotted at around 50 when I started watching. New York kind of won despite themselves. Ionescu was an appalling 1-10 from 3, but did finally hit one at a key moment late. Courtney Vandersloot only played 3 minutes in the whole game and from the outside, it sure seems like the writing is on the wall for her future with the club as she barely played any minutes in the series after New York's game 1 meltdown. On top of that, she's an unrestricted free agent and should command more money elsewhere- I'm pretty sure she took less money to join the Liberty.

People on Twitter seemed to think Sloot might hang it up after this, but that seems like madness to me. There's no way she can be happy going out like a bench warmer and Hall-of-fame level pros tend to play into their late 30's. Personally, I'd like to see her come back to Seattle for at least one year to finish out her career. She'll also be playing in the new Unrivaled 3 on 3 league which I find pretty intriguing. The games will have four quarters and be played on 50' x 70' full-court, but will fit in an hour-long broadcast slot. There are four as-yet-announced slots to be filled of the 30 players in the league, hopefully one of them will be Caitlin Clark.
