A couple more comments on The Empyrean series as a whole while it's still fresh in my mind. The fantasy world-building is excellent, but the side characters, friendships, and interpersonal conflicts are outstanding and what really set the series apart for me. Becoming invested in all the supporting characters while simultaneously knowing that any of them could get killed off at a moment's notice makes for compelling reading! Hopefully, we don't have to wait too long for the third installment.

Starting to work on some income tax filing season preparation. I have some side hustle income that came in through PayPal, but my impression is that it's not enough to generate a 1099K, which means more income accounting and self-reporting work for me.

Helped my younger son track down his missing earbuds. At one point that involved freezing my (neoprene gloved) fingers while going through a bag of garbage that had been outside overnight but thankfully they weren't in there. Actual location ended up being between two couch cushions in one of our sofas.

Ran into a pretty weird iCloud password manager glitch this morning where my main older iMac running 12.7.2 Monterey had no sign of my Peacock account while a newer work Mac mini with Sonoma was fine. Went ahead and reset it, but particularly bizarre given this is my primary Peacock watching device.

My cat just pushed the door to my office open and came in. He really likes to sit in my chair when it's available. This time he came in saw I was already here and gave up, but I asked him what he was doing as he left and he came back. Turns out he actually wanted to sit in my lap so how could I say no?

Started out at -10ยฐ F this morning, but it's quite sunny at the moment so now we're at 2ยฐ F. Hope the forecast holds and we continue to warm up to more typical January temperatures through Monday.

Felt a little burned by my last LCI draft and decided to quit drafting, save my gold/gems, and crack the 96 packs I've accumulated. Now at 200/256 rares for the set and have full playsets of almost all the important cards anyway.

Getting close to being done with drafting LCI. I've reached the halfway mark on rare acquisition (128/256) and will end up with at least 105 booster packs by the end of January. I've already picked up most of the key rares that I would want and have plenty of wildcards. It probably makes the most sense to just start saving gold for the next set.

Apple School Manager (or Business Manager depending) actually makes purchasing volume Mac and iOS app licenses really easy if you have access to some kind of company credit card. I remember things being a lot clunkier when the original Volume Purchase Program system started.

Looking forward to doing more feed hacking this weekend. As happy as I am with Microblog.php for my microblogging needs, still unsatisfied with the state of feed implementation and atom vs rss choice because of the title requirement. The json.feed branch I've been working on is getting pretty close. My plan is to push it up to GitHub and do another pull request on that branch and then do the same thing for the atom feed.

Took some garbage out earlier and it felt super cold, but bearable for the brief trip outside. After a half century of living in the Pacific Northwest I think I actually acclimate pretty quickly when it gets ridiculously cold.

Now that my kids are starting to play multiplayer Minecraft regularly it probably makes sense to set up a local server at our house. We also still need to get one of my teenage sons his own account so I can take my account back and play as well.

Looks like there's a bug related to $config['show_edits'] not reflecting the correct value of $settings['show_edits']. Not really surprising since a ton of logic still references the $config array and needs to just switch over to $settings.

Okay, that pretty much worked as I expected. I think the Settings field layout should potentially be reorganized, but that's for a separate future pull request. Also, just noticed that I crossed the 100 posts mark yesterday since starting this microblog back on December 30, 2023.

The real test is to see how the feed renders in NetNewsWire so I'm checking that right now. The Kaito avatar I uploaded yesterday is now showing up in NetNewsWire. Trying multiple attachments next.

Just created a git branch to fix feed.json's image attachment display and hopefully a few other minor niggles in the next couple days. It worked great in my test environment so now I'm trying it out on here.

Snowed enough last night for Mary to send the kids out to play for a while after 9 pm while I shoveled the driveway. It's a good thing she did because it turned to rain overnight and will probably further melt off today. Forecasts predict a big temperature drop into the single digits (ยฐF) by the end of the week. Not looking forward to that at all.

Watching UW play Michigan in the CFP National Championship tonight. The Huskies were in striking distance for most of the second half, but now that the margin is back up to two touchdowns with 7 minutes to go I think we can probably stick a fork in this one.

Got to work at 7 am this morning and was greeted by fire trucks, security, and an active fire alarm at my building. Couldn't even wait it out at the nearby Student Center because it's still on Winter Break hours apparently, and ignored our ID cards. The fire trucks cleared out pretty quickly, though and we went in after that.
