📱📚 Jason Snell's Boox Palma review back in October 2023.

MAY 09 2024 12:09

📱📚 I've been doing more reading on my trusty Kindle Paperwhite this year and I'm always interested in the latest eReader options. I like my Paperwhite, but I don't love it. The Boox Palma looks super appealing except for its nearly $300 price tag. Having had two Kindles now, I'd much rather have a phone-sized eInk reader that can fit in my pocket.

📱⚙️ One of those weird times when a Drafts entry I know I worked on yesterday is not reflected on my iPhone and work Mac. Not the end of the world, but frustrating when I'm not in a position to fix the sync on that Mac at the moment.

⚽️ Okay, in Tuchel's defense apparently Harry Kane asked to come out because of a back issue that he didn't feel he could continue playing with.

MAY 08 2024 13:47

⚽️ I'm sorry but taking Harry Kane out with 10 minutes left while nursing a 1 - 0 lead on the road is complete madness. Real Madrid equalizes a couple minutes later.

⚙️ Figured out how shortcuts work in Ubuntu-MATE and successfully bypassed the Steam launcher for Aseprite so I can directly launch it from the Desktop or the Main Menu app. Still need to get Decker working in Linux at some point, but that's a project for another day.

MAY 07 2024 14:17

⚽️ Dortmund defeats PSG 0 - 1 (2 - 0 on aggregate) to advance to the Champions League Final at Wembley. Probably the team I'll be rooting for regardless of who comes through from Bayern and Real Madrid tomorrow.

🏀 Anton Watson is This Year's Skeleton Key
Really interesting and in-depth analysis of how Anton Watson's skillset will translate to the NBA. I'm very curious to see where he goes in the draft because I can see him being overlooked and end up being a late steal for a good team.

MAY 07 2024 07:29

⚙️ Finally figured out how to access Aseprite outside of the Steam launcher. Also used Steam to install it on the little MacBook Air I set up with Ubuntu-MATE, but now need to figure out a similar trick for bypassing the launcher.

⚙️ Looking forward to playing with the ddev - Orbstack - WP - Sqlite combo tonight when I get back home. It's been several years since I last used WordPress so I'm intrigued to take another look.

MAY 06 2024 14:06

⚙️ Turns out it was quite painless to install the SQLite plugin for WordPress other than having to initially setup with a MySQL database. WP 6.5.4 doesn't officially support the plugin, but seems to be working fine so far.

MAY 06 2024 12:35

⚙️ Curious to test out WordPress 6.5 with the sqlite backend, particularly after s9y's import capabilities turned out to be so woeful. Still want to get some form of blog operational again by the end of summer.

Didn't do a good job of staying on top of documenting my media consumption over the last couple of weeks so just getting caught up this morning.

📺 Star Trek: Discovery S5E6 - Whistlespeak 👍👍 The most Star Trek episode of the season with some interesting Prime Directive issues, problem-solving, and thankfully, no Moll and L'ak.

MAY 06 2024 08:06

📺 Star Trek: Discovery S5E5 - Mirrors 👍 Okay episode, but feels like one where they couldn't get the mirror universe relevant actor they needed because of scheduling issues and still had to make it work. The Moll and L'ak backstory was fine, but not particularly engaging to me.

📚🎙️A Gathering of Shadows 👍👍 My favorite book in the trilogy so far because Lila is the focal point from page one and we get some great new characters for her to bounce off before returning to the expected ones. Lots of surprising twists, turns, romance, and subterfuge in this one. The audiobook version was well done with female and male narrators for Lila and Kell's respective perspectives.

🍿 Solo: A Star Wars Story 👍 Watched with the family on May 4th. It was my second time, but I'd watched so long ago that I'd forgotten quite a few details. Overall I liked it a bit more than I did the first time and Mary and the younger kids who hadn't seen it before enjoyed it as well.

🤖 Joanna Stern reviews the latest AI Gadgets

Pretty hilarious video review overall. I like that she describes Humane and Rabbit as "science projects". Looks like Meta's Rayban smart glasses are the most promising because they actually interface and work with your phone instead of trying to replace it.

MAY 02 2024 09:28

📺 Star Wars: The Bad Batch S03E15 - The Calvary Has Arrived 👍👍 After last week I wasn't sure if they'd pull it off, but they actually stuck the landing and gave us a solid conclusion to the story of Clone Force 99. I'm sad to see this series end because it was a show that the younger two-thirds of our family all watched together every week on Wednesdays when there was a new episode. Hopefully, there's still a story left to tell for at least one of these characters in a future series.

🎙️🤖 My initial test of the free version of Mac Whisper went quite well. The Base English model was able to transcribe a 45 minute podcast at about 3x speed on an intel iMac. Unfortunately it crashed while I was testing the Speaker labelling functionality, but output was solid and word recognition was quite reasonable.

MAY 02 2024 08:19

🤖 I'm curious to try out MacWhisper. While I don't personally have a lot of transcription needs at the moment it's actually something Mary could use occasionally. Her Mac is intel based though so we'd probably need to run the process on one of our M1 Macs.

📺⚽️ Together: Treble Winners S1E2 - We have to take responsibility. 👍 Such a likable and cohesive group. Loved Erling's bonsai tree and De Bruyne's practical take on player fashion, he's a man after my own heart. Forgot that they lost to Brentford right before the World Cup. Talk about a bitter pill to end on after a really good run of form.

🔖 HOW DANIEL RADCLIFFE OUTRAN HARRY POTTER
Nice piece in the Atlantic on Daniel Radcliffe's post-Potter life and career. I've always been impressed with the interesting roles he's taken since and the way he comes across in public. Just a talented and down to earth guy who doesn't take himself too seriously, got an early career break, and made the most of it.

🧙‍♂️ First double platinum (draft and ranked) season finish in a long time yesterday. Nice to get back to six bonus packs again after a run of four or fives.
