πŸ—“ Microcosm - 2024 Sep 22-30

SEP 30 2024 20:16

βš™οΈ Finally spending some time on Bear blog migration project again after a busy evening. Still working on May 2020. Got a little distracted going through my original blog archive.

πŸ“± The home button on my younger son's hand-me-down iPhone 6s failed recently so I helped him turn on Assistive Touch yesterday. I knew how to do this quickly because the same thing happened to my older son on the hand-me-down 6s he had at the time a few months back. I feel like 8+ years of continuous use until failure on a device most people replaced every couple years (at the time) is pretty good.

SEP 30 2024 08:07

βš™οΈ After working on my blog in Bear the last couple days I find myself wanting to adopt universal micro.blog style emoji tagging for all my posts and titles.

SEP 30 2024 07:38

βš™οΈ Also found my twttxt exports from 2022-23 so I can convert those into microcosm posts as well. I'll probably need to write a script to preprocess the file first though since that format uses UTC time stamps.

SEP 30 2024 07:30

βš™οΈ One thing that my experiments with microcosm posts in so.axodys.com has reminded me of is that I really need to bite the bullet and finally add markdown support to my microblogging system.

🏑 Raked up a bunch of pine needles, took down one of our back deck sun shades, and dealt with a couple of vole hills in our front yard. It was pretty windy at the time, not clear how long that's supposed to continue today.

πŸ₯ Went to my first high school football game in ages to watch my younger son perform with the Mt. Spokane High School Marching Band at halftime. Union Stadium is a great venue and it's close to our house as well. The football game itself was a rout as Mead rolled over Mt. Spokane 27-7, but the atmosphere was great and the halftime show was really impressive.

SEP 27 2024 09:42

πŸ§™β€β™€οΈ Just saw that Maggie Smith died at age 89, and now I'm bummed out. I've been reading the Harry Potter series to my kids (currently on Order of Phoenix), and she was such a perfect McGonagall in the movies.

SEP 26 2024 07:30

βš™οΈ It's fairly tempting to set up a few more subdomain blogs in Bear since I can have up to 10 and it's quite easy. Obvious options include MTG (Magic the Gathering), FC/FM (Football Club/Football Manager). That might be overly ambitious and unnecessary though or it could be exactly the way to go.

SEP 25 2024 23:28

βš™οΈ Successfully shifted my axodys.com dns records around and pointed so.axodys.com at bearblog.dev. I'll probably start working on my layout and importing some older posts tomorrow.

SEP 25 2024 13:21

πŸ’Έ It's a real trip down memory lane to login to the Social Security website and see your complete lifetime earnings history. It makes sense that they would have that information, but it's still wild to compare where I started to where I am now.

SEP 25 2024 10:22

βš™οΈ I think I see how I can build a reasonable blog archive structure in Bear Blog without pagination. Tag filtering works pretty well so I can simply tag posts by year and create pages based on year. A lot of manual work will be involved, but that's fine.

SEP 25 2024 07:49

πŸ‘Ύ I really need to take a look at Decker again and the most recent summer jam they held. It's such a cool retro platform, but I got distracted by other stuff over the summer. I just saw that the most recent version has improved palette management support which is awesome. 16 colors is plenty to do amazing pixel art, but switching palettes wasn't easy.

SEP 25 2024 07:43

🏈 I figured that WSU was completely hosed with the dissolution of the original Pac-12, but the solid conference moves over the last couple weeks and Wazzu's post-Apple Cup momentum has really improved my outlook. Add in the possibility of Gonzaga joining the conference for basketball and the other other non-football sports and I'm actually getting pretty excited.

SEP 25 2024 07:24

βš™οΈ I need to play with Bear Blog a little more and set up the so.axodys.com subdomain. On a related note it occurs to me that I should probably should start doing a daily personal task list in Drafts like I do for work.

SEP 24 2024 22:56

πŸ§™β€β™‚οΈ Whelp, my first couple Duskmourn drafts have been tough sledding. 0-3ed my initial one and only one win so far in the latest one. At least I've been pretty successful rare-drafting so far. Houston went 7-1 and trophied on his first try so that was cool.

🌐 I've been aware of bearblog.dev for a few years, but Dave Winer linking to it today sparked a revisit and renewed my interest in it as a potential platform for long-form writing. I'm not sold on its lack of year-based archiving and flat linking structure but I am a big fan of its minimalist aesthetic.

⚽️ Didn't realize Rodri left the Arsenal - City game with a knee injury. Word coming out today is that he'll probably be out for the entire season.

SEP 22 2024 20:46

πŸ€βšΎοΈ Lexie Hull capturing Caitlin Clark on TikTok doing a couple minutes of impromptu baseball commentary of a Phillies game is my favorite thing about social media. I think it's pretty cool that the Spokane native, Hull, has become work buddies with the rookie sensation. If Lexie stays with Indiana for a few more years it seems likely she'll have a shot at adding a WNBA title to her already elite basketball resume.

SEP 22 2024 10:45

⚽️ Arsenal end up drawing 2 - 2 at City after leading 2 - 1 most of the game with only 10 men (thanks to another time-wasting red, this time by Trossard at the end of the first half). Feel like they got what they deserved with all the time-wasting they pulled at the end too.

πŸ€” Just two-guessed Wordle! That doesn't happen very often.
