This is a Christmas movie staple at our house and I'm a big fan so I joined the family in our annual watch tonight. It was as enjoyable as ever and amazing to realize it debuted twenty years ago.
The people who go on about the uncanny valley on social media continue to irritate me. Robert Zemeckis and his production team were clearly going for an aesthetic based on the art from the original children's book. I love the unique look and feel and it absolutely honors the source material in a way that conventional animation or live-action never could.
Recently on social media, I also saw some deeply misguided people who thought that using generative AI to redo the movie as something more akin to live-action was a good idea. Talk about an absolutely soul-less endeavor.
