⛵️ Week Notes 002
🗓️ // Jan 05, 2025 - Jan 11, 2025
Still figuring out how to approach this format. I imagine it will evolve quite a bit in the weeks ahead, but for now, sticking with what I did last week.
- Spent most of the week doing remote Windows Configuration Manager training from home for work. It was a good course and the virtualized training environment and exercises were very worthwhile, but the live presentations got a bit mind-numbing and I felt drained by the end of each day.
- I think I would have preferred a series of relevant module-based instructional videos more like what Pluralsight does than our instructor's lectures. He was very helpful when I needed hands-on assistance, but kind of free-formed the presentations and it was often hard to take notes and absorb the information.
- Went over to my friend Tim's house Thursday night to help him get moved into his new M3 15" MacBook Air. Migration Assistant and Time Machine took forever to move over his stuff, but it all worked out and Tim was very pleased in the end. He even gave me his old MacBook Air as a hand-me-down for one of my younger kids.
- Got a lot more experience updating old Macs like Tim's old MacBook via Open Core Legacy Patcher this week. I also swapped out the original 128GB ssd for a 256GB one that I had around.
- My 2009 Mac Pro is also updated to Monterey now (High Sierra previously) and I'm probably going to attempt Sonoma again soon. I see it primarily serving as file and media storage going forward. Still need to update my iMac to Sonoma 14.7.2, but it's my main machine so I'm a little reluctant.
- Finally got a little bit of snow this week. It melted off pretty quickly on the roads, but an inch or two remained on the ground which is a lot more appealing than bare ground in the middle of January.
👾 Playing
- 🧙♂ Nothing too exciting on the Arena front. Mainly working on Daily Quests and moving up in ranked.
- 📱 Still doing the Word puzzle games on the phone.
📚 Reading
- 🎧 Started Wil Wheaton's Still Just a Geek annotated audiobook of the memoir he first wrote over twenty years ago. I can't remember if I read the original, but listening to a seasoned professional audiobook reader update and reflect on his original memoir two decades later is compelling.
📺 Watching
- 📺 Made it through episode 8 of Silo season 2 thanks to the free Apple TV+ weekend and enjoyed the heck out of it. Realized that I'm eligible for 3 months of Apple TV+ and plan to activate it this week to finish up Silo and be ready for Severance.
- Watched several more episodes from the Tally Ho rebuild playlist on the Sampson Boat Building Company YouTube channel. Now up to episode 20 out of the 200 some videos. Leo is fun to root for and this is a super compelling story with tons of travel, history, geography, and human interest on top of the boat-building.
- 📺 Watched Skeleton Crew episode 3 with the family. Still fun and looking forward to watching more.
- 🍿 Watched Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince with the younger girls for the first time Saturday night. There were some subtle changes that the girls noticed, but I was fine with all of them.
🎧 Listening
- Listened to a few more podcasts this week and not much music at all.
- Also started Wil Wheaton's Still Just a Geek audiobook.
