🥶 Week Notes 004
🗓️ // Jan 19, 2025 - Jan 25, 2025
MLK holiday and also the presidential inauguration on Monday. I ignored politics as much as possible.
- Started the week by getting my daughter's car in working order again. Added diagnosing and replacing a malfunctioning fuel injector to my car repair skillset. Also picked up a better engine code reader and automotive circuit tester in the process.
- Passed my yearly physical with flying colors, although I could still stand to lose ten pounds or so.
- Much more typical January weather this week with lows in the teens (F) and highs just below freezing. Minimal precipitation though.
- Got in one more visit with the pups today. Two out of the nine have already gone to their new homes and a third was leaving shortly after our visit. We're not in a rush as we want them to have plenty of time with their mom and will be taking them home on February 7.
👾 Playing
- 🧙♂ Up to Gold 1 now on my slow journey to Platinum in ranked. Enjoyed this week's midweek magic with Cascade Brawl. Played one Wilds of Eldraine Quick Draft and finished 3-3 which got my gems back up over 3000.
- Started getting more serious about making a game in RPG Maker 2003. Figured out how to play Bibby Bobby using the EasyRPG client after downloading and installing the 2003 RTP.
📚 Reading
- 🎧 Finished the main portion of Wil Wheaton's Still Just a Geek annotated audiobook and now going through the many short pieces he added to the end of the audiobook.
📺 Watching
- 🍿 Watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II with the family. I enjoyed it, but was somewhat disappointed with the way the final confrontation execution differed from the book. I did like the epilogue scene from 19 years later.
- 📺 Made it through episodes 6 & 7 of Skeleton Crew with the family. Looking forward to watching the finale early next week.
- 📺 Started watching Slow Horses season 4 and enjoyed the twists and turns of the first couple of episodes, particularly the Tavernish vs. Whelan dynamic in dealing with the First Desk role. James Callis is perfect as the inept transparency-obsessed political appointee Kristin Scott Thomas has to manage while doing all the work.
- 📺 About halfway through Jentry Chau vs the Underworld now. The underworld denizen stuff is pretty cool, the Texas stuff is kind of tired. Stud football player Michael wanting to give up football to play flute (which he is terrible at) was utterly preposterous.
- Watched a bunch of RPG Maker YouTube videos this week. There's a fair amount of 2003-related material, but it's tricky to track down amongst all the various versions. It's also fairly amazing how flexible the engine actually is.
- 🍿 Finally watched Attack the Block and got a big kick out of it. Wasn't expecting Franz Drameh (who I knew from Legends of Tomorrow) to be part of John Boyega's crew. Nick Frost and Jodie Whittaker (future female Dr. Who) were other notable cast members.
🎧 Listening
- Mostly audiobook listening this week again.
- 🎙⚽️ I should note that I have drastically cut down all my Tottenham-related podcast listening because I value my mental health during this nightmare of a season.
