🤔 Week Notes 005
🗓️ // Jan 26, 2025 - Feb 1, 2025
Cold dry week that ended with a very rainy Friday and a disappointingly tiny amount of snow. I'd describe it as reasonably productive on a personal level, but not overly focused. I did write a few things I was pleased with on and off the blog. I hope I can be more productive in the week ahead though.
We've been in puppy house-prep mode all week, but most of my related efforts started Saturday. Got out and did a bunch of yard cleanup with the kids as well as working on eliminating some of the boxes of junk outside my home office.
Helped my daughter get decent internet in her downtown apartment. It offers free wifi to its residents that's sufficient for basic web browsing, but not any kind of streaming video. Weirdly her recently updated and modernized apartment has no coax jack so Xfinity isn't even an option. We opted for Verizon 5G Home instead and it seems great so far.
🏀 Finally watched a couple of Gonzaga games again this week after missing a lot of the games in January. Super-talented team, but it's missing something, and very much a work in progress. The Oregon St. game was good, but tonight's St. Mary's game was there for the taking and they didn't execute down the stretch.
The end of the week has been very disturbing in the US from a political perspective. Wednesday night we had the tragic plane helicopter crash in Washington DC. Friday we learned Elon Musk is gaining access to government financial controls that he has no legal authority to and Trump's ridiculous tariffs just went into effect Saturday. Democratic leadership seems completely absent at the moment.
👾 Playing
- 🧙♂ Finished the January season in Platinum for constructed for the first time in months since I was done drafting Foundations. Did one Wilds of Eldraine Quick Draft to make sure I got my free Bronze limited pack.
📚 Reading
Finished Still Just a Geek 👍 (my review)
Haven't decided what I'm going to read next but Oynx Storm continues to be on my radar.
I've been finding lots of quality blogs on Bear Blog. Toska's blog being the highlight discovery of the week and one I immediately had to respond to.
📺 Watching
📺 Finished Jentry Chau vs the Underworld 👍👍 and really enjoyed it. The back half of the thirteen episodes season propelled it to two thumbs-up territory for me. Love that if they do a second season, Korea (and anywhere else in the world besides Texas) is on the table.
🍿 Got inspired to track down and watch The French Dispatch 👍👍 by a list of ten best feel-good movies from the last ten years that Kottke linked to. It reminded me that I pretty much love all Wes Anderson movies and should watch all the ones in his oeuvre that I've missed sooner rather than later.
📺 Severance S2E3 👍👍 Another wild and awesome episode. Great to see Gwendolyn Christie and I still kind of wonder if Helly's outie has been posing as her innie all season. It's been fun learning about Dylan's outie life even though Lumon is clearly using it to manipulate and control him now. Ms. Cobel remains an aggravated and indecisive mystery- where was she headed to in the middle of nowhere? Why does she keep turning around and running away?
📺 Finished Skeleton Crew 👍👍 at the beginning of the week. Just a fun family Star Wars show. The four kids were great and Jude Law is an international treasure and seemed to be having a lot of fun in his role. I wouldn't mind a sequel, but am completely satisfied with the way it ended.
🎧 Listening
🎙 Core Intuition 626: Something Has to Change 👍 Listened to the final episode of Core Intuition despite having dropped it from my listening rotation at least four or five years ago. I like and respect Daniel and Manton a lot, and it's cool that they went out on their own terms after a 16-year run.
🎙⚽️ After Thursday's uplifting 3-0 win over Elfsborg, finally felt like it was worthwhile to listen to a few Spurs podcasts again.
🎸 Added Wil Wheaton's Still Just a Geek Spotify playlist to my rotation. He has several others I plan to check out in the future as well.
