🗽 Week Notes 008
🗓️ // Feb 16, 2025 - Feb 22, 2025
Family started to get well again this week after a tough one last week. Weather started warming up which is a nice change of pace from the previous couple. Still lots of melting snow on the ground though.
As I start on my 2024 Taxes I do so with suspicion that it's going to be delayed even if I complete it a month and a half early. Fortunately, between Mary working part-time now, and the raise I got at the end of last year, we're less dependent on getting our yearly return in a timely fashion.
Called the office of my Republican Congressman, Michael Baumgartner, for the first time (ever) Friday morning to voice my disappointment in his lack of reaction to our ongoing Musk-driven constitutional crisis. In light of everything, I plan to continue engaging with his office at least a few times a week going forward.
Baumgartner later release his weekly update Friday evening and continued to put on a front of business as usual. To his and his staff's credit it seems like he's actually writing a good portion of these updates himself. I felt like his predecessor completed handed these off and mostly regurgitated talking points handed down from Republican leadership.
Playing
- 🧙♂ Lots of Premier rare drafting with mixed success winning, but I did get my first trophy with a 7-2 Orzhov deck with a nice Gonti bomb rare. Constructed is going okay as I hover around Gold 2-3.
Projects
📚 Made an epub from the Bloomburrow web episode stories. There were only five and they had mostly webp images so it went quickly.
Continued writing on 750 Words and released a blog post about the service.
Made some progress on my February 2024 entries for so.axodys.com.
Started thinking about a my life in weeks page of my own based on Gina Trapani's work.
Got interested in seeing whether I can create a Zine maker or Meme-maker Deck in Decker based on the work on Valentine-er.
📚 Reading
🧙♂📚 Finished the Aetherdrift web episode stories 👍 released by Wizards of the Coast. Thought they were good, but not great and dragged in a few spots. The Sita/Spitfire, Chandra, Pia storyline was good. Not a fan of inscrutable Jace creating another planar revolution and disrupting the race just so he could grab Loot again.
🧙♂📚 Started reading Bloomburrow stories again (I'd originally read the first episode when they came out).
📺 Watching
🍿 Porco Rosso 👍👍
📺 Finally started What If? Season 2. The first couple episodes were fun Guardians adjacent ones.
📺 Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man 👍👍 Last two episode of season 1 dropped this week and wrapped everything up in a pretty satisfying way, while still setting up future seasons. Lonnie Lincoln was the unexpected breakout casting addition to the story.
📺 Started watching Dark Matter on Apple TV+ and I am already nearly finished. Completely mind bending show once you get to episode 4. Also as a Gen-X Jason who grew up surrounded by other Jason's it's the perfect name for the central character in a multiverse story.
📺 Severance is still going strong with S2E6: Attila. John Noble as Christopher Walken's (Bert) outie's husband, Fields, was some first rate casting. Was not expecting the religious explanation for Bert getting severed or the explanation for the episode title which is perfect.
⚽️ Got a nice lift from the back-to-back Spurs' wins over Man United and Ipswich.
🎧 Listening
Mostly the usual podcasts, particularly Spurs ones as they are much more enjoyable while while we're winning.
Listened to Spotify a little more this week. Realized that they have Bill Gate's Source Code audiobook so I'm going to start on that.
