🐶 Week Notes 028
🗓️ // Jul 6, 2025 - Jul 12, 2025
Forgot to write my 750 words this morning at my usual time, but this actually is better for composing my week notes anyway since I can include my day's activities. It's been a hot week so far, with the pups in particular trying my patience.
🐶 The puppies are incorrigible diggers when bored and unattended. They've done a ton of damage to our backyard and the side yard in particular because of excess water from our leaky faucet and the neighbor's sprinkler system. Thursday, they turned the flower bed next to the faucet into a deep and long mud pit while I was at work. Yesterday they did a five foot long and foot-deep diagonal gash from the stone edging. I was completely shocked when I saw that one today.
🏊♀️ It was the first week of swimming lessons for my three youngest and two of their cousins, who come over every summer for the lessons and a couple of week visit with Mary's parents. It's awesome to have them come over, but it makes for a very busy couple weeks.
🏊♀️ The kids have all been really enjoying the new above-ground pool my mom got us earlier this summer. Unfortunately, the dogs already managed to damage the cover, which is very important considering all the debris that falls from the pine trees above it. I was able to MacGuyver a fix for now, but I remain fearful that they'll damage the pump and hoses- one of them already chewed on part of the outlets before I connected the pump.
Projects
🏡 I've been devoting a lot of time to puppy-proofing the side yard and filling in the holes they've created around the yard. I'm pretty happy with the picket fence gate I built, but still needed to fence off the section under the fireplace outlet and across the flower bed (the reason they were still able to create the mud pit this week). I made good progress on this today and should wrap it up tomorrow.
🏡 Filled in the gash they made in the backyard with extra broken pavers we had. I could have just filled it all in with dirt, but they would have just dug it up when we watered and it turned to mud. This should disuade and slow them down if they decided to revisit the scene of the crime. Still have multiple holes in other parts that I need to fill in.
⚽️🎮 Fully embarked on my 2024-35 USL Super League season database for Bang Average football. There are tons of men's soccer resources out there thanks to Sensible World of Soccer and people are already porting databases over from there. Making it my personal mission to start building some women's team and player databases. Used CoPilot to generate some python scripts that will convert the database.json files back and forth between Excel for ease of bulk editing.
📝 Ordered some inexpensive dot notebooks and gel pens on Prime day to start working on my home bujo process. I have a purely digital bujo approach at work that I've been doing for several years, but I have a ton of personal and home projects that I want to document and organize going forward with this methodology.
Playing
⚽️🎮 I tried out a limited tournament in Bang Average Football with the first four USL Super League teams that I was able to setup and the results were quite promising. Played in hard mode for the first time, and it was a very good mode for me right now- challenging and fun, with the top teams immediately punishing my mistakes.
🧙♂ Okay results in Final Fantasy limited this week. I was able to get to 4 wins in a premier draft and pay for an additional draft without dipping into more of my gold. Will probably crack my packs and start saving gold for the next set sometime this week.
Watching
📺 Started Death Note 👍 on a whim and was initially digging it and then Light's megalomaniacal reveal at the end of episode one kind of put me off. Went ahead and watched the second episode and got more enthused again once L arrived. Then we learned who Light's dad was in episode 3 and things definitely got a lot more interesting to me overall.
📺 Continuing my recent anime kick, Dan Da Dan's first two episodes have been insane so far in season 2. I'm kind of ready for them to take a monster breather and just get back to the cute Momo and Okarun relationship dynamic for a bit though.
📺 Started up on Leviathan on Netflix and loving it. Anime is the perfect medium for this series. I read the first book, but never finished the trilogy, even though I really liked it. It's been long enough that it's faded in my memory quite a bit, though, and I think this is one my younger kids will really like as well.
Reading
- 📚🎧 Finished the Bullet Journal Method audio book last Sunday and ready to start putting the methodology to work in paper form at home. As I've mentioned, I had been doing a limited digital form of it for several years, but migrations, collections, and review were some great thought technology to add to my quiver. Looking forward to putting pen to paper for my home and personal projects.
Listening
🎙 Lots of Spurs podcasts to keep up on this week with the transfer news heating up with Mohammed Kudus coming on board and the Morgan Gibbs-White release clause being triggered.
🎶 Nothing particularly new or exciting musically this week, just the usual recent Lorde tracks and Spotify playlists.
