🏡 Week Notes 030
🗓️ // Jul 20, 2025 - Jul 26, 2025
This was an interesting week for me and the family. I took the week off for a staycation to coincide with Mary being away in Coeur d'Alene for a week-long training program she was assisting with. CDA is close enough that she could have commuted if necessary, but with housing provided it made sense to save on gas. It was a good experience for all the kids to have her away and they're all old enough to step up and contribute to keeping the household running smoothly in her absence. We all missed her but I'm really pleased with how well everything went.
- I really put my bujo system to the test this week with a variety of small projects and things that I wanted to accomplish during my time off. Overall I thought it went well and I was productive, but no shortage of things I need or would like to do still.
- Made good headway on getting the side yard and backyard flower beds ship shape again. Lots of spare river rock was moved to cover up and hopefully protect all the dirt I replaced from natural and canine-powered erosion.
- Had a fun bike ride with the kids, but also opened up a Pandora's box of bike maintenance tasks for the weeks ahead (which I generally enjoy to be fair).
- Spent more time fixing electrical cords than I anticipated, but something I have no problem staying on top of because of how important it is from a safety perspective.
- Had a lot of good dinners thanks to Mary's planning and my middle son, Nathan's capable hands in the kitchen. Growing up, my Grandpa Gord (my mom's dad), always ran the kitchen for the big family holiday dinners at his house (and in general when we weren't there) so it's been cool to see Nathan follow in those footsteps.
Playing
- 🧙♂ I've kept up on my dailies, but with the season winding down and the mastery pass complete I've also skipped some days.
- ⚽️🎮 I've worked on the USL Super League database in Bang Average Football a little bit more, but have prioritized a lot of other home tasks.
Watching
- 📺 Leviathan 👍👍 Finished the 12 episode anime adaptation of the Scott Westerfield trilogy and can't wait to introduce it to my younger kids. It's very well done and the absolute perfect medium for the alternate history/steampunk story.
- 📺 Dan Da Dan 👍👍 The first four episodes of the most recent Netflix release (still considered season 1 in Callsheet) has been absolutely frenetic and highly enjoyable. Looking forward to hopefully downshifting and catching my breath for an episode or two.
- 📺 Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 👍👍 Three episodes are already out and I've only seen the first two so far and they were both great. Love this show and so happy to have it finally return.
- ⚽️ Women's Euro 2025 Semifinals 👍👍 I wasn't able to sit down and watch all of either game, but I caught the end of both and they were great. Looking forward to the England - Spain final tomorrow.
Listening
- 🎶 Shadow Cell 👍 Shiroban x Pizza Hotline dropped a new 4 track EP that I've been enjoying.
- 🎶 Chordata Bytes I 👍👍 I found a really interesting collaboration between Imogen Heap and Dan O'Neill where she took the nature sounds he collected and turned them into a series of unique tracks as background music for a series of podcasts. These are not your average podcast backing tracks and exactly the kind of music I enjoy having in the background when writing or working on something on a computer.
Projects
- 🏡 Made some real headway on the the issues we have going on in our yard. Also trimmed our fruit trees and learned a little bit about their maintenance.
- 📝 Finally got caught up on my huge 2025 blog Week Notes and Microcosm post backlog that I let get away from me over the last several months. Now I need to see if can finally put a bow on the January and February 2024 posts I've been meaning to wrap up.
- ⚽️🎮 Made a little bit of progress on the 2024-25 USL Super League database, but need to finish it so I can start on some new ones like EURO 25, and 2025-26 USL Super League one.
