⛈️ Week Notes 032
🗓️ // Aug 3, 2025 - Aug 9, 2025
Fairly uneventful week in the grand scheme of things. Trying to think of anything notable to recap and struggling. Typical August weather, although thankfully no wildfire smoke at the moment during a time of year that it has become the norm over the last decade.
⛈️ Weather-wise, it's been a typical August week, and we even had a thunderstorm pass through, bringing a bit of moisture as I've been trying to reduce my watering a bit.
The pool algae battle kind of stalled out because we still need some kind of pump vacuum attachment to suck out all residue after the HTH Shock takes out the algae. So still working on that angle.
🐶 The pups continue to randomly dig really large holes in the backyard for random reasons. My approach to the latest one was just to keep filling it back in with dirt. At this point as long as they just remove dirt rather than expanding the hole I'm winning.
Watching
📺🍿 My friend Morgan Richter has a great Youtube series called When Gen-X Ruled the Multiplex where she goes through 100 movies from the 1980's that were formative to the Gen-X experience. I'd watched many of the later ones, but finally started watching the series from the beginning and made it up to Episode 5: Tuff Turf (👍👍) this week. Featuring a twenty-something James Spader and a teenage Robert Downey Jr., that's one I'm going to have to watch for myself soon.
⚽️ Realized this week that Paramount+ has all the games from the Championship so I'll be able to see what Wrexham and some Spurs-adjacent teams with academy players on loan or managers like Birmingham (Chris Davies) and West Brom (Ryan Mason). Caught the end of Southampton - Wrexham and watched them blow a 0 - 1 lead and lose 2 - 1.🤦🏻♂️
📺 Dan Da Dan S1E18: We Became a Family 👍👍 With Jiji/Evil Eye wreaking havoc on the house and calling off the crazy hard rock exorcism, Momo decides to take a job, and her "friends" leap at the chance to embarrass her and an unwitting and resistant Okarun.
📺 Star Trek: Strange New Worlds S3E5: Through the Lens of Time 👍👍 A real TOS-style episode, with redshirts, landing parties, and all. Looking forward to finding out more about what's up with Batel.
Playing
- 🧙♂ Kept on top of my dailies and finished my first Premier draft with a 5-3 record. Played just enough Ranked constructed to get to Silver 4.
- ⚽️🎮 Played a little bit of story mode and drew a few games. I'm still pretty mediocre at hard mode.
Projects
🏡 Realized now that the wood from the long shelves my father-in-law had built for us and then eventually replaced with a really nice cabinet he also built would be perfect material for two projects in my office. A third of one of the planks would make a great 5" shelf to support the bulletin board backdrop behind my desk and 60" of one could be used for a full standing desk on the back of my desk.
🌐 Took advantage of Comcast's current 5-year service deal and free modem/router hardware to reduce our bill and upgrade our speed/bandwidth. Finding a free moment when no family members in the house needed internet was actually harder than the installation which only took about 15 minutes. Increasing our upload speed rate to 40 Mbps was like a 10x improvement and made it all worth it.
⚽️🎮 The 2024-25 USL Super League Bang Average Football database is still hanging over my head. Hope to finally knock out DC Power and Fort Lauderdale this weekend and get it to a state where I can start testing it.
Listening
🎶 Revisited my Brasshouse Gameday playlist on Spotify and finally provided an explanation of what I was going for when I created it back in late 2019. I should probably do a more explanatory full post at some point and I'm intrigued by the idea of creating more playlists in the format.
🎙 One great thing about being in the middle of season 3 of Strange New Worlds is that it means new Vulcan Hello episodes on the Incomparable Network. I've been really enjoying Scott and Jason's ongoing discussion of the new season.
🎙⚽️ I didn't watch the Spurs game at Bayern Munich, but I've sure been listening to the 4 - 0 aftermath on all my regular Spurs podcasts. To say we've all got a lot of doubts and trepidation going into the Supercup match with PSG (not to mention the start of the Premier League) next week would be an understatement.
