📺 Week Notes 035
🗓️ // Aug 24, 2025 - Aug 30, 2025
Hot, largely uneventful week heading into the Labor Day weekend. I did end up taking Friday off as well so I could enjoy a four-day weekend heading into the school year.
☣️ Gave up on the pool algae problem and finally started draining and cleaning it. There ended up being a surprising amount of algae sludge once I got down to the bottom, which is kind of a pain to deal with.
🏃 Despite the hot weather, the girls and I were able to stay on top of our running schedule and get in our normal three runs this week. I'm hoping we can get in a long run on the Centennial Trail from Gonzaga tomorrow morning before it gets too hot. Depending on how far we go, we'll be close to 60K for the month.
🌐 Successfully signed up for the Xfinity Stream Saver bundle that consolidates Peacock, Netflix, and Apple TV+ into a $15 bundle. Still unclear on whether this is going to add $5 to our monthly internet bill or not, since it was a wonky process.
⚽️ Spurs signing Xavi Simons before Chelsea could close the deal was completely huge. Super excited to see what he brings to the team when we return from the international break. Depending on who they sign in the next couple of days Spurs might actually end up with a really good transfer window.
Watching
📺 Dan Da Dan S1E20 I Want to Rebuild the House 👍👍 Shocking everyone, Okarun uses his newfound fighting prowess and some surprising insight to befriend Evil Eye and get him under control. Then they rebuild the house thanks to some alien nanotechnology and Momo is forced to shepherd Evil Eye through the perils of a day at high school.
📺 Star Trek: Strange New Worlds S3E8: Four-and-a-Half Vulcans 👍👍 Hilarious transformation episode with Kirk, and Patton Oswalt as Una's unlikely ex Doug, the Vulcan katra expert and human enthusiast. Stay for the bonus human discussion scene between Spock and Doug.
📺 Started bingeing Murderbot now that we have Apple TV+ again and have been loving the sci-fi comedy/satire about a rogue security bot. I've heard a lot of good things about the series of novellas that it is based on, but I have yet to read them.
Projects
🍏 Finally bit the bullet and started cleaning up the files on my main iMac as I get ready to swap it with a slightly newer Mac with a better storage scenario. I've been trying to clear off all the unused old video files and the like, which have pushed things up to nearly 500GB.
🍏🌐 Started working on getting the Mac mini I intend to host my microblog on up to speed as well. Lots of moving pieces still to set up on that one, but making a little progress.
🏡 Fixed the leaky kitchen faucet again without too much trouble. Confirmed that a key gasket had started to fray in the problem valve. I immediately wondered if that was the kind of thing people could use a 3d printer to replace, and confirmed that it is, and in fact, there are a lot of Delta repair models out there.

- 🧙♂ I've been keeping up on my daily quests and mastery pass in Arena, but keeping it pretty chill and skipping some days.
Listening
🎙 Worked my way through the Surely You Can't Serious episodes focusing on some of the top albums from 1994/95. Really great series that takes me back to my college years.
🎶 Inspired by the related SYCS podcast, listened to the Eagles Greatest Hits album from the early 70s. That triggered some new ideas for my basketball novel (but nothing involving actual song lyrics because copyright law is pretty stupid in that regard).
Reading
📚 Mary finished The Understudy this week so I started up on it, but I'm only about a chapter in so far.
📚 Continued to make progress on Batgirl: Year One (Chapter 6 of 9) and enjoying it, but I find the subtle, yet often abrupt, scene and flashback switches annoying.
