💬 Week Notes 038
🗓️ // Sep 14, 2025 - Sep 20, 2025
Unusual week at work in that I came into the office Wednesday through Friday because of some mandatory in-office days. It's been cooler in the morning, but still getting quite warm in the afternoon for mid-September in Spokane.
⚽️ After practicing at the same elementary school field with no incidents for over a year, S's team had a scary encounter with an irate (and perhaps mentally unstable) neighbor. Out of the blue part way through practice an older woman started loudly and angrily berating them for practicing across the fence from her house and making too much noise. They're not a particularly loud group and there was actually a marching band practicing nearby that sounded louder to me. The woman eventually devolved to throwing sticks and rocks over the fence and they had to relocate to a safer part of the field.
🍔 Tried out Wisconsinburger with a big family group yesterday to celebrate Houston's recent graduation. It was really good and a superior local alternative to Red Robin. We don't eat out often at all, but I expect this will be near the top of the list
💬 Stumbled upon Delta Chat yesterday thanks to a reference to the pixel.social app that runs on top of it and I'm smitten. I've been interested in cross platform secure and open source messaging options I can use with my family for quite a while, but the webxdc application functionality on top of what is already a really clever design built on top of proven email technology is next level.
🍏 macOS 26 Tahoe dropped this week, but I'm delaying installs as long as possible until there are a few more incremental releases. Need to install it on at least one Mac for testing purposes though.
🍏📱 Set Nathan up in his new iPhone 16e that he received as an early birthday present. I was impressed at how easy it was to migrate his data from the old iPhone 6s he had previsouly. I was not impressed with how much of a pain it is to move a phone number from a SIM based iPhone to and eSIM based iPhone on Xfinity since it requires direct intervention from an agent.
Playing
- 🧙♂ Quit drafting Edge of Eternities and cracked all of my packs. I don't think I ever won more than four games this set. I thought it was cool and liked the mechanics, but was a little burned out on drafting after Final Fantasy. Planning to skip the mastery pass for the next set and mostly just save up for Avatar.
Reading
📚🦸♀️ Batgirl Volume I: Silent Knight 👍👍 I wasn't familiar with Cassandra Cain previously, and I'm still a big Barbara Gordon fan, but I really like this incarnation of Batgirl. Barbara Gordon (aka Oracle), acting as mentor and adoptive mother figure to the young trained assassin, is just a cool dynamic.
📚🦸♀️ Batgirl Volume I: The Batgirl of Burnside 👍👍 Fun modern take on a twenty-something Barbara Gordon who has recovered from her paralysis and is trying to be Batgirl in a social media-dominated landscape while going to grad school.
Watching
📺 Dan Da Dan - S1E24 👍👍 Crazy Giant Robot vs Kaiju episode where Kinta Sakata mostly pilots the nano tech robot well enough to defeat the Kaiju with an eventual assist from Momo and Aira. Then Okarun makes a surprising discovery about the defeated kaiju. Wonder how long we have to wait for further episodes?
📺 Brooklyn 99 - S5 👍👍 Finally came back to Brooklyn 99 where I left off in season 5, and watched a few more episodes this season. The LA funeral road trip episode was particularly entertaining.
Listening
🎙 Surely You Can't Be Serious Podcast 👍👍 Listened to the recent Chicago 17 episode and followed it up with the Flash Gordon vs. Highlander episodes. So good.
🎶🎮 Picked up Hacknet on GOG for really cheap this week and started working my way through the soundtrack on Spotify. Antipate having more to say on it next week.
