π Week Notes 042
π // Oct 12, 2025 - Oct 18, 2025
The fall temperature shift is in full effect. We're started getting frost in the morning this week with the inevitable missing scraper headache for Mary the first time it happened. Just another reason we need to get her side of the garage cleared out again.
β½οΈ The fall soccer season wraps up today and on top of the three games there's supposed to be one pizza party as well (right before the last two games). Nothing like family logistics.
π₯ We got to see Nathan and the Mt. Spokane High School Marching Band perform their complete show at halftime against my alma mater, Ferris, on Thursday. It's called "Love, Ellie" based on the opening montage to Up and is pretty epic on both a visual, musical, and emotional level. It was great during the early preview we got to see at the end of band camp and completely awesome now with complete props and choreography.
βΎοΈ Mariners have been a real roller coaster this week. They got off to a miraculous 2-0 series lead in Toronto, then lost the next two at home in Seattle before getting a huge 6-2 come from behind win to go up 3-2 heading back to Toronto. Compounding the drama all these games are on FS1 which I don't have easy access to as a non-cable subscriber.
Reading
π¦ΈββοΈ Batgirl Vol 2: Knightfall Descends ππ I'm enjoying this Gail Simone run quite a bit, but the ramping intensity and trauma is starting to turn off at least one of my daughters. There's a reason I'm reading through these first before I let the girls try them out.
π¦ΈββοΈ Batgirl Vol 3: Death of the Family ππ The Joker took this storyline to the next level of unhinged malevolent intensity that I had to warn my younger two daughters ahead of time. Both decided to go ahead and read it even though I suggested it was okay to skip.
Projects
π‘ Hoping to fix the freezer fan this weekend, but it's been running okay at partial capacity and I'm reluctant to unplug the whole fridge for an hour to try to work in our very hectic kitchen. So timing is key on this one.
π‘ Lots of yard cleanup to do this weekend. That means repurposing fallen pine needles on as many exposed dirt spots as possible to cut down on muddy dogs this winter. Luckily we have a pretty solid supply.
π¦ Realized earlier this week that an old unused PC would be the best option for a home container server I want to expose to the internet via Cloudflare. Got it spun up yesterday with Ubuntu Server 24.0.4 LTS, next up podman, and a pod-based web server.
π I've been working on cleaning up my 15 year-old link collection that started in pinboard, but now lives in Anybox. That means culling tons of singleton tags and cleaning up, organizing, and archiving broken links that I've found as well.
Playing
- π§ββ I'm way behind on my weekly win total. Missed Midweek Magic completely and forgot to finish my Quick Draft (finished 5-1 doh!).
Watching
πΊ Chad Powers S1E4: Fourth Quarter ππ Amusing Halloween adjacent makeup drama episode centered around Danny and Russ scrambling to acquire supplies on the road in Tennessee. The Coach Ricky - Russ encounter actually went way differently than I expected.
πΊ Slow Horses S5E4: Missiles ππ Absolutely chaotic reveals and outcome on this one. If River didn't feel cursed already he's got to be getting there after this one.
Listening
π Enjoyed the Survivor "Vital Signs" (1984) episode of Surely You Can't be Serious this week. It ties in nicely with the previous "Chicago 17" episode.
βΎοΈ Occasionally tuning into the Mariners internet radio broadcasts of the ALCS has been the only way for me to keep up on things other than various sports score apps. I actually enjoy consuming baseball this way quite a bit, and it's great to hear Rick Rizz's voice again.
