π Week Notes 049
ποΈ // Nov 30, 2025 - Dec 6, 2025
The first week in December is always birthday week at our house as the oldest of my younger daughters has her birthday followed by my younger son, Nathan's birthday a couple of days later. For the record my older kids are all legal adults now so I generally just refer to them by name, but the younger girls haven't even hit their teens yet so I try to give them a little more anonymity when I talk about them.
Nathan requests a fish fry for his birthday so we fried up some cod, jalapeΓ±o slices, and onion rings in the fish fryer. We tend to do it about once a year as a special occasion and in the past during warmer weather and before we had the pups we did it in the backyard. I think we'll continue to use the garage year round going forward. Everything turned out great and I really enjoyed the meal.
π―οΈπWe take Advent season pretty seriously at our house so that means gathering with the family in the living room for nightly readings from four different books (two Advent books with daily entries, a relevant illustrated children's book from Mary's Advent collection, and a chapter from Jotham's Journey). it's a lot of reading, but everyone is old enough to take a turn these days, and it's a great family activity and tradition.
β½οΈ Spurs played really well against Brentford this morning and won 2-0. Even better Xavi Simons picked up an assist and his first Premier League goal. Is it a coincidence that this happened because I finally released him from my fantasy team? I think not, and you're welcome fellow Spurs fans.
π§οΈ We got cold and snow at the beginning of the week and it didn't last at all, turning into fairly warm weather and rain yesterday. It looks like we can expect more of the same through Friday at least.
π I barely follow college football, but I still have a soft spot for WSU, my alma mater, so I was shocked and dismayed to hear that their first year coach, Jimmy Rogers, just took the job at Iowa State after narrowly qualifying for a bowl at 6-6 this season. The amount of player and coaching migrations that occurs in college football is a huge turnoff, particularly with WSU's position being so tenuous during the Pac-12 exodus.
Playing
π§ββ Played some Magic Arena this week, but not enough that I didn't have to play a lot to get in all 15 weekly wins. My second draft started out promising, but had a couple of control-esque late game bombs that I didn't take advantage of well enough and I ended up 2-3.
βοΈPlayed a lot of Minecraft this week and got a little better at bee wrangling and basic farming, which was one of my main objectives this week.
Watching
πΊ Pluribus S6E1 HDP ππ Wild celebrity spokesman choice to justify Carol's upsetting discovery from last week and mildly hilarious and kind of sad that everybody already knew because Mr. DiabatΓ© figured it out and Zooms with all the other uninfected regularly. Thankfully, Carol still has at least one remaining potential ally in the Paraguayan guy who is finally on the move.
πΊ My Next Guest is: Adam Sandler ππ Really enjoyed this hour-long episode between Davide Letterman and Adam Sandler. Hearing about some of Sandler's pre-SNL origin beginnings was a real trip (literally and down memory lane) in terms of early gigs, and going to NYU (and landing a small role as one of Theo's friends on the Cosby Show while).
βοΈ Lots of Minecraft videos on YouTube. I like learning different farming techniques, although I prefer the clever small-scale aesthetic ones to full on automated Redstone monstrosities. I also really like the ones where really creative solo builders do it while still playing in Survival mode.
Listening
- π It's Storytime with Wil Wheaton started a new season. I really enjoyed The Sort, a short story about a telepathic father and son traveling the country and trying to blend in with the normal people.
Projects
π Mostly birthday preparations and Christmas light preparations. I did have to do a fair amount of garage clean up and reorganization today to get to the bin we have our artificial tree installed in. That's going up today and I'll do our outdoor lights tomorrow.
π» There's an old PC laptop I've been meaning to install linux on, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I'll probably give it a go this week if I can.
