π§ Week Notes 054
ποΈ // Jan 4, 2026 - Jan 10, 2026
I almost forgot that it was time to catch up on the news of the week today. We finally got some snow that stuck around at the beginning of the week. That put a little bit a damper on running with the girls, but I successfully got them out for a short 3.5K run yesterday since the roads are mostly clear. It is nice to still have an inch or two of snow over the grass this time of year.
π§ With the death of Renee Good, Minnesota has become ground zero for our reckoning with the Trump Administration's fascist agenda. Spokane has already had its own share of run-ins and the fact that there's an ICE Depot adjacent to Riverfront Park could be a protest flashpoint again in the future, despite wise efforts from peaceful organizers to protest elsewhere like North Division.
π We successfully took down all the indoor Christmas holiday decorations and packed them up midweek as we had a hard deadline of my youngest's 9th birthday party. I had tree disassembly and storage duty and today I'll take down and pack up the outdoor Christmas lights as well. I definitely wouldn't mind some kind of permanent flexible LED system for the future that you can program for different holidays and events.
π My youngest turned 9 this week, hard to believe that she's only a year away from double digits with the rest of us. We had a really nice party with lasagna and Mary's special sauceless garlic chicken pasta that we all love. Dessert was a huge Apple Crumble with choice of homemade vanilla and chocolate ice cream.
β½οΈ Spurs had a nightmare midweek, losing 3-2 on the road to Bournemouth, after leading early, conceding two goals shortly after, then equalizing late, only to lose to failed summer acquisition target Semenho in his last game before heading off to City. Then things got ridiculous with Cup-gate (oblivious Frank drank an espresso out of an Arsenal-branded paper cup during pre-game), Van de Ven getting heated with a knucklehead away supporter post-game, and Romero called out the board on Instagram for their lack of public support (he wasn't wrong).
β½οΈ Things didn't really get any better today with a 1-2 home FA Cup exit to Aston Villa. Talk about a worst possibe third round opponent draw. City got Exeter and absolutely smoked them. The first half was absolute dross, but there were signs of life in the second half.
Playing
βοΈ Backed off on my solo play entirely this week and just focused on the multi-player world with the kids. Houston has a colossal tower going and has been mining out a single chunk. L built an Enderman XP Farm that Houston dubbed a masterpiece once it was completed. I did some caving off my primary mine shaft and stumbled on a zombie spawner, so I started on my own XP farm, but didn't quite finish it yet.
π§ββ Played a bit more this week as I focused on Quick Draft and trying to convert gold into gems for the Mastery Pass heading into Lorwyn Eclipsed. Was much more successful going 6-3 and 3-0 currently. Even had a successful Midweek Magic going 3-1 playing Momir (which I generally hate because it's completely random)
Watching
πΊ Fallout S2E4 - The Demon in the Snow ππ Some pretty fascinating Cooper fighting in Alaska back story, and Maximus and Lucy's ability to get themselves into further hot water while still surviving (and thriving?) is hilarious.
πΊ Night Thoughts - Kumail Nanjiani π Inspired by his recent guest spot on Fallout Season 2 decided to check out his comedy special on Hulu and enjoyed it.
πΊ Teacher - Tom Segura π - The preview titular material about his son was hilarious, but I never got to it because the first half of the comedy special was almost entirely scatalogical, misogynistic, dog-whistle humor, and I noped out.
πΊ American Boy - Marcello HernΓ‘ndez ππ Finished off my comedy excursions this week with another Netflix special that I got a really big kick out of. Hilarious show built on his relationship and experiences with his Cuban immigrant mother (who looks like she could be my age or even a few years younger) and how insane white people seem when viewed through the Latino prism.
Listening
- π The usual Spurs podcasts and also some recent The Talk Show with John Gruber end of year Apple stuff.
Project
β½οΈ Started on my Tottenham Hotspur Stadium 3D model this week and it's awesome, but a little bit tricky- the two base plates don't directly interlock to form one solid piece, unfortunately. Decided to take a couple of days break and step back before finishing off the roof, grounds, and outer cladding this morning.
π‘ My office has officially become enough of a mess that I need to give it some attention this weekend. Too many boxes with random stuff that I need to further organize and eliminate.
