⚽️ Week Notes 058
🗓️ // Feb 1, 2026 - Feb 7, 2026
The car drama at our house continues. After two weeks the dealer didn't do anything for Mary's car other than a few minor checks and let her start driving home. She didn't even make it a couple of blocks before she had to turn around and bring it back. So incredibly disappointing. I regret not taking it to a nearby local mechanic that has largely favorable views when I checked on a whim. We just need to know if the transmission is a total loss or not so me can move onto the next car.
⚽️ Outrageously disappointing week for Romero. First he makes a pointed post on Instagram taking aim at the hierarchy again. He wasn't wrong, but to get sent off with yet another red card (he now has six at Tottenham) 30 minutes into what was a very competitive and entertaining game at Old Trafford up to that point was horrendous. Spurs shortly went down 1-0, but somehow kept it competitive through 80 minutes, then immediately gave up another score after bring in Tel, Kolo Muani, and Bissouma.
🏀 I didn't watch the game, but a horrendous loss for the Zags at Portland, a mediocre WCC team that are currently sub-500, is going to cost them big seeding-wise come March.
🏈 Lots of local interest in the Super Bowl with the Seahawks back in it and it taking place in the Bay Area. AP reporter Janie McCauley is based there and has tons of local ties having grown up in Leavenworth and attended WSU. Gonzaga was able to get four journalism and broadcasting students press credentials this week; what an amazing experience for them!
Playing
🧙♂ I continue to not really enjoy my Lorwyn draft experience after trophying in my first go. The obvious decks like goblins and merfolk have never come together for me even when they seem to be open. I played the revamped Premier style Pick 2 most recently, goblins seemed completely open, and
⛏️ I feel like I'm getting decent at the caving process. I randomly located a really good cavern off one of my exploratory shafts and picked up a lot of diamonds, redstone, and iron. I also found a zombie spawner as well with some decent loot chests.
🕵️♂️ Detectiveland 👍👍- Played through the first case of the IFComp winning entry powered by the system that would eventually be known as Gruescript. I generally had the right idea on the puzzles, but was stumped by a couple of things and turned to the walk through so I could progress quickly.
Watching
📺 Wonder Man 👍👍 A super fun and refreshing break from the typical MCU formula in 8 half-hour long installments. I started watching early Sunday afternoon and ended up bingeing all 8 episodes because I enjoyed it so much. Just a great, unlikely bromance about acting, friendship, mentorship, and redemption powered by the amazing acting and chemistry of Ben Kingsley and Yahya Abdul-Mateen.
📺 Fallout S2E8 - The Strip 👍👍 Solid wrap up to the second season with plenty of unanswered questions for season 3.
📺 Star Trek S1E5 - Series Acclimation Mil 👍👍 Amazing Sam episode, with a ton of unexpected Benjamin Sisko callbacks, and a full guest spot for original DS-9 cast member, Cirroc Lofton (Jake Sisko) himself. Can't wait to listen to the Vulcan Hello podcast discussion of this one.
📺 My Hero Academia - Just about done with season 5. I think I'm into episodes that I haven't seen before because I don't really remember any of them the way I do with earlier seasons.
📺 Brandon Sanderson's 2025 YouTube series on writing. Sanderson teaches a lecture course at BYU every year and I've always meant to watch one. Finally got inspired by his recent Apple TV+ deal to check his videos out. So charming and engaging. I read his first MIstborn book a long time ago, and enjoyed it, but his huge popularity kind of demotivated me.
Projects
🧙♂ Started fiddling around with Gruescript again this week. I've got a small project that I'm working on to learn the system. Also discovered that Google Gemini has a good understanding of the system as well which is helpful when starting out. I'll reveal more about this project in the near future depending on how it goes.
📝 Finally published all the January blog posts that were sitting in my drafts. Need to get back to publishing more than just a couple of times a week. I also need to figure out what I can bring in from 2024 and earlier from a microblogging perspective.
