π Week Notes 059
ποΈ // Feb 8, 2026 - Feb 14, 2026
It's been a very interesting week from a sports perspective, a very challenging one from a family transportation one. Lots of stress and changes have been happening recently, but we're getting everything sorted out slowly but surely. The three-day Valentine's Day/President's Day weekend definitely hit at the right time to catch our breath and spend some quality time with extended family.
ππ The Seahawks won Super Bowl LX over New England 29 - 13 thanks to their dominant defense and some reliable offense that was just good enough to consistently put points on the board. Not a very good game for neutral fans at all, but I was loving it the whole way.
π΅π· Bad Bunny's halftime show was pretty epic. I haven't listened to his music at all prior to this other than purely random pop culture exposure, but I loved the staging, and the through line of community and unity with all the countries in the Americas (this was a concept I was exposed to early in my high school Spanish classes three and a half decades ago).
β½οΈ Thomas Frank was finally fired after Tuesday's loss to Newcastle and his replacement is the guy that the departed Fabio Paraticci wanted clear back in January, Igor Tudor (which screams that the only guy that understands football has left the building). I sincerely hope that Tudor can manage to keep us up, and that at least Johan Lange, and possibly Vinai Venkatesham are ejected from the club come summer. If Spurs are relegated I don't see how they survive, and even if we stay up Lange deserves huge blame for the two year mess his youth first - veteran signing light approach has created.
π We finally confirmed that we're going to have to replace Mary's Expedition, so I've been working on the logistics of getting rid of it and we're started looking for replacements. My daughter thought she had a replacement for her totaled car lined up only for it to fall through. Hopefully both of us can get replacements sorted out by the end of the month.
π We celebrated Mary's dad's 88th birthday a few days early yesterday so that a bunch of extended family could all make it. Mary's sister and her daughters were in town, so lots of fun cousin time for our kids.
Playing
π§ββ Finished up another disappointing Quick Draft and mostly played constructed the rest of the week. Midweek Magic was Lorwyn Eclipsed Brawl which I kind of enjoyed, but also kind of hated depending on which Commander my opponent was playing with. I thought Morcant Perfect was kind of annoying until I encountered Maralen and then really learned the error of not having enough removal.
βοΈPlayed some solo Minecraft for the first time in months and I'm still terrible about going too far into dangerous caves, losing my way, and then also all of my (relatively) good armor and equipment. Definitely need to get back up to diamond armor again and be more careful once I get it.
Watching
πΊ Just about wrapped up Season 5 of My Hero Academia. It's not my favorite season, but I do think the focus on villain character development and Endeavor finally trying to become a better person and father is quite interesting.
πΊ Starfleet Academy S1E6 - Come, Let's Away ππ What should have been a straight forward training exercise goes awry, and then Paul Giamatti returns to chew scenery and really make things interesting!
πΊπ I'm up to episode 3 of Brandon Sanderson 2025 lectures on writing science fiction and fantasy and loving it. He's a great lecturer and offers tons of excellent insight and stories about becoming a successful writer and storyteller (even if that just means finishing novels that your friends and family will enjoy).
Reading
- π I haven't been doing much in the way of reading for pleasure in months, but my mom gave me a couple of more books yesterday to add to my to-read pile that look pretty promising.
Projects
π Getting rid of Mary's old car and shopping for a new one are probably my highest priority for the remainder of the month.
𧩠I've been making a simple game in Gruescript a little bit this week. I've created a basic map with several rooms based on our house's layout, now I need to start making some objects and puzzles. The documentation is solid, the syntax is pretty simple, and it's just a matter of picking up the rule based systems idioms to start making some interesting stuff happen.
