π Week Notes 060
π // Feb 15, 2026 - Feb 21, 2026
Weird week with the President's Day holiday and resumption of normal February winter conditions after a positively springlike first half of the month.
π Thought we'd finally resolved our Expedition pickup problem yesterday thanks to peddle.com only to be thwarted by app failure at the salvage company end. I find it ridiculous that I had to do all the legwork to straighten things out, and reschedule for Monday, but Peddle's giving us an addition $35 in compensation for our trouble.
π₯ Realized this week that the pep band at my son's high school was skipping both home playoff basketball games because of a band competition taking place today. As a former pep band member and basketball coach, I hate this in every possible way. Last night's District Championship game should have been a fun night to kick back and relax after a hard week of practice, perform some classic songs, and entertain the Mt. Spokane community one last time.
β½οΈ Igor Tudor took over as interim coach at Spurs this week and appears to be the right man for the job given his proven managerial firefighting reputation for turning bad seasons around. Johan Lange also gave an interview that was low on accountability and only bolstered my view that he's completely out of his depth as Technical Director and must be fired after the season.
π Hit my one year anniversary of writing at least 750 words a day at 750words.com this week and I think that translated to just under 390,000 words total. It's been really helpful to my mental health over the last year to do so much free writing, and it's also made keeping up on Week Notes relatively easy as I kill two birds with one stone every Saturday. My resolution for the coming year is to do less free-writing and more specific writing during the rest of the week.
Playing
βοΈFinally got back into playing my big solo world after about a month away. Spent a lot of time exploring and clearing a massive cavern to the northwest of my main base and ultimately discovered it fully connects to the cavern at the bottom of the main main mine shaft at my base.
π§ββ Productive week on the Magic Arena front. Marched up Gold and just need to get a couple of more wins to reach Platinum 4. Currently sitting at 4-2 with an Azorius Merfolk deck with my latest Premier Draft. Undecided if I will do a few more drafts or just buy a bunch of packs, save my gems for Strixhaven and call it good since I'm skipping Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles drafts.
Watching
πΊ Well into Season 6 of My Hero Academia. The scale of the hero vs villain battles in this show is only exceeded by its impressive ensemble character development. Villains and minor characters get plenty of attention and moments to grow and shine. It's following the Harry Potter trajectory of encroaching darkness, jeopardy, and even death, as time passes and the villains grow stronger, but as I think about it, it's actually superior in almost every way so far. We'll see if it holds up to the finish.
πΊ Star Trek: Starfleet Academy S1E7 - Ko'Zeine π Good episode that probably could have been better with some additional script work. Fun to see Jay-Den go from being bullied by Darem in the first episode to his friend and accidental best man by episode 7. Also good for Genesis and Caleb to bond over empty academy hi-jinks, and get a better understanding of each other's personal drama. The absence of Daren's parents at a momentous event with no explanation was a significant oversight on the writer's part.
πΏ Predator: Badlands ππ Fun entry into the Predator series with a lot of potential for a sequel. I hope it does well enough in streaming to bolster its already decent box office performance and give that possibility some juice.
Listening
π β½οΈ Tons of Spurs podcasts this week in the wake of Igor Tudor's hiring, and the upcoming North London Derby.
π§ Finally replaced my failed bone conduction bluetooth headphones with a pair of inexpensive soundcore V20i open ear earbuds. Completely impressed with the sound quality and how quiet they are externally. The form factor is also superior to the bone conduction ones they replaced since there is no connecting bar and I can comfortably wear them while lying down on my back or on my side.
Projects
- π The number one project priority now is find a solid used car to fill the gap created by the loss of the Expedition. At this point we're leaning towards another Subaru, probably a Forester or Outback based on reliability, value, and winter performance. We'll see what turns up though.
