𝕏 The Purge
I haven't had Twitter on my phone in almost a year, but I've continued to visit the website frequently throughout most days. Part of that was to tune into the sports and news-related circles I'm interested in, but post-election it's the perfect time to clean house and finally move on. Blue Sky appears to be gaining traction with some of the folks I followed who were sticking with Twitter last year. Mastodon and Threads are still options as well. RSS, blogs, and microblogs are my daily reading priorities going forward, but they don't quite fill that live event niche that Twitter did for me.
I also realized today that it's trivial to do a custom domain handle on Blue Sky now if you own at least one domain name. So I went ahead and associated axodys.com with my Blue Sky account. Then I started looking for accounts that I had previously followed on Twitter, following them if there was an account, making a note if there wasn't or I didn't want to follow them any longer, and then unfollowing on Twitter.
It's going to be a bit of a project to do this as I started working through all my follows, but I'm looking for proper closure on the account. It's interesting to revisit long-defunct accounts that I barely remember following in the first place. I also discovered that I still have a bunch of tweets on the account that will need to be deleted as well so I'll be working on cleaning those up at the same time. Longer term I expect to eventually incorporate all my old tweets of note into Microcosm posts on this blog as I do have a working export all the way back to the beginning, but that's a much longer-term goal. Time to go do some more unfollows.
