🥩 Week Notes 022
🗓️ // May 25, 2025 - May 31, 2025
This is the week, or rather weekend, I'm actually going to put in some work on fixing my backlog of week notes posts and getting caught up on my blog. It sounds like I need to go down to GU tomorrow with Nathan while he volunteers at the McArthey Athletic Center doing concessions for Gonzaga Prep's graduation. This would be a great dedicated block of time for me to work on this project.
🥩 Did a lot of barbecuing in the last week. I'm no expert now or anything, but I guess I'm a stereotypical dad who doesn't particularly like to cook but doesn't mind grilling meats.
🏡 Lots of progress on the yard. Finished reseeding the front yard on Monday (need to confirm), and it's been responding well to the heat and watering we've been doing.
🏃 Haven't been running as much as I'd like. It's been hotter during prime running times and the girls have still had soccer practice to contend with, but starting next week, we should have total flexibility.
🏆 Soaking in the post-Europaleague Victory glow for Spurs has been awesome. Not knowing what's going to happen with Ange Postecoglou with the transfer season beginning has been a real bummer.
🥞 Had a fun work breakfast downtown on Thursday with my supervisor and a few colleagues because he needed to spend down a budget with the fiscal year ending. Had a gigantic, delicious Apple Pancake that forced me to delay my usual lunch starting time by two hours!
Playing
- 🧙♂ Almost entirely Magic Arena. I've been focusing on helping the girls fill out their collections by playing Jump In and Midweek Magic. Still haven't committed to spending wildcards on specific semi-completive decks for L and S.
Listening
- 🎶 Musically, I'm in a favorite tracks rut with nothing new to report there. I got a lot of enjoyment out of a late 90s alternative rock playlist that I randomly picked on Spotify last night, though. Still looking forward to Lorde's new album, Virgin, coming in June.
Projects
👾 Finally realized that Decker came out with a huge international character font support update (it's not full Unicode support or anything, but it's much better than minimalist ascii with 200+ total characters) in the point release before last and now I want to fiddle around with Decker fonts again.
⚽️🎮 Thinking about potential players, teams, and leagues once Bang Average Football 1.1 drops and I can start customizing everything. The USL Super League, where the Spokane Zephyr play, is probably my first choice.
🌐 A couple of my coworkers were discussing Tailscale (one is a big user and the other was interested in it), and was reminded that I really need to work on getting some of my home network computers on board.
🍏⚙️ Need to set up a dedicated Mac for some outward-facing web access and potential host for axodys.octobloc.xyz so I can get off of Uberspace, which is a great service but kind of a hassle payment-service-wise, considering my minimal needs.
Watching
📺 Still watching Welcome to Wrexham and loving it. Not much otherwise in terms of tv shows currently.
📺 Inside Bill's Brain: Decoding Bill Gates 👍👍 Enjoyable series that ties the problems that the Gates Foundation is tackling to the problems and experiences of his childhood and youth.
🧙♂ The usual MTG-related YouTube channels as I look for interesting brews and budget decks. Phantasm has been a recent favorite and PowrDragn has had some good ones as well.
📺 Watched an interesting video on the Natrium Nuclear Plant that Bill Gate's Terra company is building in Wyoming. This looks like a really promising option for an industry that has been completely stalled in the United States for most of my life. Nuclear energy is the only way we're going to get close to anything approaching carbon neutrality in my kids' lifetimes. It was funny to see Kyle Smith in his actual science element rather than on Prof's Magic channel.
