ποΈ Week Notes 063
π // Mar 8, 2026 - Mar 14, 2026
Fairly unusual week overall. I took the first three weekdays off at work because it was Spring Break on campus and they were doing some serious HVAC work on the roof of my building with a crane that required shutting the whole building down. Unfortunately the cold I've been dealing with for a while now flared up enough over the weekend that I would have called in sick on Monday and Tuesday anyway. Mary was even worse than I was with fatigue and a terrible cough that forced her to call in sick three days in a row. Then it hit all of the kids at the end of the week as Mary and I started to improve (and we've both still got nagging coughs and runny noses) so we've got a very disrupted house at the moment.
π Zags won the WCC Tournament over Santa Clara on Tuesday, to close out their WCC tenure before heading offto the PAC-12 next year. It was a close game until partway through the second half when Graham Ike, and Gonzaga's two standout freshmen Mario Saint-SupΓ©ry, and Davis Fogle started asserting themselves. I think Santa Clara beating St. Mary's in the semifinals gives the WCC a real shot to send three teams to the NCAA tournament.
β½οΈ Spurs had an absolute Champions League nightmare in Madrid on Tuesday, losing 5-2 to Atleti. The slippery over-watered field conditions played a direct role in the first three goals, two humiliating Anton Kinsky miscues sandwiching a Micky Van de Van howler. Spurs battled back a bit with goals from Porro and Solanke, but Igor Tudor's decision to start Kinsky, poor handling of his removal, and insistence on putting players in roles that don't suit them have probably sealed his fate barring a Liverpool miracle tomorrow.
βοΈ After a fairly cold week with sub 32ΒΊ F nighttime temperatures we hopefully got the last gasp of winter with a few inches of snow by Friday afternoon. It started out as an about a half inch of ground cover when we woke up and just kept coming down all day. The dogs really enjoyed it, but I'm not super excited to have a couple of inches of snow on the ground in the middle of March with temperatures cool enough to keep it around.
π Being sick on and off for the last couple of weeks has really impacted our training in March. Mary and I are both starting to question whether it's realistic for the family to run Bloomsday together this year since we're all still sick and only have seven weeks of training left.
Playing
π§ββ Played casually with the girls a bit and focused on my Daily Quests, Midweek Magic, and a little Ranked Constructed. Midweek Magic was TMNT On the Edge Standard (FF through TMNT + Foundations) so I ended up playing life gain with the Leonardo rare and got 3 wins and a couple rare rewards pretty quickly.
βοΈPlayed Minecraft once at the beginning of the week with L and Houston. Spent the whole time exploring a giant cavern and unfortunately I'm lost deep underground and virtually out of torches so I'll probably just have to die to get out (we have save inventory for the game).
Watching
πΊ Star Trek: Starfleet Academy S1E10: Rubincon ππ Everything a Trek fan could possibly want in a season finale. A Federation-wide threat, a giant show trial, and a chance for a ragtag crew of cadets and their mentors to save the day against terrible odds.
πΊ Paradise S2E5: The Mailman ππ Good to finally see Teri's survival story. So much serendipity with Bean (which makes me think back to what the mysterious Professor Miller said to Billy in S2E3), but what a gut punch twist.
πΊ Brooklyn Nine-Nine S5E22: Jake & Amy ππ Finally finished up Season 5 of my current favorite comfort viewing comedy show and thoroughly enjoyed the ridiculous wedding day hijinks of the Nine-Nine crew. This is my first run through, and the show I turn to whenever I want to watch something that's short and don't want to spend my whole time figuring out what I'm going to watch.
Projects
π€ Last Saturday decided to give Claude a shot at helping me build the personal microblogging system I've wanted for a few years now and had a working implementation at mcs.axodys.com by Monday afternoon. Spent my days off Tuesday and Wednesday refining it and imported all of the markdown entries I had kept in a Drafts file since September. Kept refining it and adding new UI features through the end of this week and watched my daily microblog posting rate climb dramatically.
π I plan to import all of the microblog posts that I did in microblog.php between December 2023 and September 2025 into mcs.axodys.com today. Not sure if I'll attempt to go back further than that. The new system is a lot more emoji and tagging centered and would require a lot of additional work that I'm not sure would be worthwhile. Furthermore I still have to import most of that timespan into so.axodys.com anyway.
