🎌 Week Notes 069
🗓️ // Apr 19, 2026 - Apr 25, 2026
This ended up being a quick week for me. I ended up taking Friday off for a doctor appointment and then to haul my daughter's dresser out to her apartment. I spent the afternoon fiddling around with Hermes-Agent.
🎌 Mt. Spokane High School Winter Guard had their end of season Showcase/Awards Night on Tuesday and it was a really fun event. Both the A and B teams ran through their shows twice (despite not practicing for the last three weeks) and the captains and coaches recognized every single member in some way. Nathan ended up getting most improved on the B Team, and also B Team Rookie of the Year from his coach.
⚽️ Spurs at Wolves every game is pivotal, but this one particularly so with Wolves relegated and Spurs needing every possible point from here on out. I wasn't able to watch more that the first 20 minutes or so because of my daughters' soccer games this morning, but I followed as best I could and was elated when they somehow scraped out a 1-0 victory thanks to Richarlison and Jao Palinha combining to finish off a corner at the 81 minute mark. Unfortunately, West Ham came back and beat Everton to remain two points ahead of us and out of the relegation zone.
🐶 One of our dogs broke out of the backyard twice today and we were gone both times. I thought Houston did a pretty good job blocking the broken fence slat that Echo was exploiting, but we learned otherwise as we were headed to our last game of the day. Turns out there was too much gap between the plywood he had tried to block the slat with and they still got back there. I repaired the slat once we got back, but then also put the plywood as flush as possible and reattached it to a fence post in the theory that we'll leave it up until they're completely forgotten about the vulnerable fence board.
⚽️ My daughters' soccer games were all pretty entertaining, but my oldest's experience continues to be a frustration. Inexplicably they ended up in a league where their opponents seem to be 1-2 years older and it's usually not pretty. Despite this, they played one of their best halves of the season and scored the first goal of the game. Unfortunately their overall team fitness isn't great, they don't have enough subs, and they completely faded, and got blown out in the second half.
💃🕺 Nathan's senior Prom is going on right now as I write this. He went with a big group of friends and they went to Mary's personal favorite The Old Spaghetti Factory for dinner. Earlier in the afternoon Mary was able to meet up with the other moms, and take a bunch of photographs so I'm looking forward to seeing how the kids all looked in their Prom attire. Sounds like they're all planning to hang out at one of the kids houses, have some late night snacks, and get in some Mario Kart afterward as well.
Playing
- 🧙♂ Secrets of Strixhaven dropped this week and I immediately bought the mastery pass with my saved gems and started a Premier Draft. I ended up 2-3 in the first of what would be three straight Witherbloom drafts. My second draft went better as I ended up 4-3 which is almost enough to pay for another Premier Draft. So far I'm liking the set and hope I'm able to expand into some additional colors this weekend.
Watching
🍿 Bohemian Rhapsody 👍👍 The Queen bio-pic featuring Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury is equal parts fun, sad, and uplifting. Malek is so good as Mercury, and I really enjoyed the way they structured the movie to culminate in the band's iconic Live Aid permanence.
📺 Daredevil: Born Again S2E6: Requiem 👍👍 Jessica Jones finally showed up and it turns out she's had some significant life changes in the years since her series aired. Matt finally confronts Kingpin, Karen ends up in hot water, and so does BB. Really doesn't seem like they're going to be able to wrap up this season in just a couple of more episodes.
📺 For All Mankind S5E5: Svoboda 👍👍 Irina is back on the show (and on Mars!) with unclear allegiances just in time to get caught up in all the Mars conflict that Governor Polivanov stokes with his heavy-handed leadership.
Projects
- 🤖 I did a lot of fiddling around with local AI this week. It's not as good as the cloud-based stuff, but it's improving all the time and you can still do some really cool stuff with it. I'm particularly interested in seeing what I can do with Hermes-Agent and if I can successfully use it to run scheduled tasks and the like. The funny thing to me is that Claude is great at helping with setup and configuration stuff.
