⛽️ Week Notes 070
🗓 // Apr 26, 2026 - Mary 2, 2026
Fairly uneventful week, but last weekend was the 25th anniversary of my dad's passing so he was on my mind on Sunday. That started me down the rabbit hole of doing some online newspaper archive research on my dad's early coaching career. Claude was really helpful in directing me towards some resources, and also gathering up my recollections about his coaching career overall for future projects.
⚽️ L's soccer coach told her team they needed to watch a professional soccer game (American soccer un-culture in a nutshell!) and I was working at home Tuesday so we made a point to watch the Champions League semifinal between Bayern Munich and PSG. We were pulling for Bayern and Harry Kane and it ended up being a wild 5-4 offensive game with home side PSG coming out on top. I never force the girls to watch soccer, but we have watched a decent number of Spurs and Spokane Zephyr games together over the years.
🏡 Got our side yard reinforcements sorted out so that we can start watering our yard again without worry about the dogs escaping or getting destructive in that highly vulnerability part of out property. Our leaky primary faucet, Comcast-based internet, and original long-unused phone wiring all reside over there and the dogs love to get destructive and dig in damp or muddy ground when bored. Over the winter they realized jumping my original three foot tall gate was no problem so I had to build things higher on Monday.
⛽️ Filled up the gas tank on my Honda Element for over $70 for the first time ever I believe. I've actually been keeping a record of gas expenses for the lifetime of the car and I think I was able to fill it up for as low as $25 in the early 2000s when I first got it. Thanks for the completely unnecessary, Iran-fueled inflation bump, Donald Trump.
🤖 Didn't do too much fiddling around with Hermes Agent and local model stuff this week after getting it all set up last weekend. Then discovered yesterday, that the fairly experimental PrismML Ternary-Bonsai model I had running as my default model was a little buggy and putting a lot of memory pressure on my M1 mini. It was still actually functional in the shell, but ultimately decided to put that aside and go back to more reliable ollama hosted models like Gemini4-e4b.
Playing
- 🧙♂ Had a fair amount of success and fun with the new Strixhaven set. No trophy runs yet, but think I went roughly 2-3, 3-3, and 4-3 playing Witherbloom, and have had even better luck with Silverquill now sitting at 5-1 with a chance to trophy. Practiced Offense is an absolutely ridiculous card in limited and is probably pretty good in standard as well.
Watching
📺 Daredevil: Born Again S2E7: The Hateful Darkness 👍 The season is starting to wrap up and it's all kind of bleak. The Karen Page jail and courtroom stuff is pretty good, but mixed feelings about the culmination of the Daniel, Buck, and BB leak storyline. The Heather stuff is completely unhinged, but I'm now actively hoping Buck is one of her victims when she goes full Muse.
📺 For All Mankind S5E6: No Sudden Moves 👍👍 Tense episode that finally brings the Earth - Mars conflict to the fore as the the consequences of the governor's crackdown in the last episode play out. Boyd and Miles team up as the voices of reason, and attempt to figure out some kind of exit from the impasse, but Earth doesn't negotiate with "terrorists" and look set to send in the space marines, two of which appear to potentially have Mars sympathies.
